As part of Catalant's effort to help customers easily engage with independent consultants like you, we offer compliance services to customers to ensure that engagements are in accordance with company policies and that engaged Experts are correctly classified for tax and employment records. Below is an overview of the compliance process for projects with Clients who have additional compliance requirements.
Catalant’s Compliance Process Simplified
When a Client has opted to receive compliance services, Catalant will perform a worker classification assessment for each project. The worker classification assessment aims to determine whether the Expert should be classified as an independent contractor or an employee for a given project, based on the applicable laws in the country in which the Expert will complete the work.
Each project is evaluated on the following criteria
- Project Details, this could include project duration, rate, and type of work to be completed
- Expert Details, this could include location and independent business verification
- Hiring Manager responses to a provided questionnaire
Possible Outcomes of a Worker Classification Assessment
There are two possible outcomes of a worker classification assessment; an Expert could be engaged as an independent contractor or could be engaged as an employee to complete the project. Once the final determination has been completed, Catalant’s Compliance Team will ask the Expert to complete the necessary paperwork and onboarding steps for Independent Contractor Engagements, or introduce the Expert to one of our Compliance Partners if the Expert needs to be employed.
Compliance Partners
Catalant’s compliance partners act as the Employer of Record when an Expert needs to be engaged as an employee for their project. This means that the Compliance Partner will work with the Expert to complete all of the necessary employment paperwork, HR administration, benefits and background checks required to complete the onboarding process.
Information required from Compliance Partners
Catalant’s Compliance Partner will ask the Expert to provide all necessary documentation to be employed in the city, state, or country in which the Expert resides. They will also provide employment agreements and employment information (benefits, time off, etc) that is applicable based on the Expert’s location.
Payment Logistics
Independent contractors will be paid via the Catalant platform, where they will be asked to establish a Payoneer account in order to receive payments. For Experts who are employed by a Compliance Partner, the Compliance Partner will provide direct deposit, payroll schedules, and any other payroll information that the Expert requires.
